Industry Advisor, Emeritus
John McCarthy was the face of the health and fitness club industry for 25 years and was a founding Executive Director of the International Health, Racquet, and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA), the largest trade association in the world for the health club industry representing 7,000 member clubs across four continents. During his tenure at IHRSA, he created four magazines for the industry: Club Business International, Club Business Europe, Club Business Latin America, and Club Business Entrepreneur while also developing the largest fitness-only trade show in the world. John applies his years of experience, knowledge, and a network developed over his 25 years as IHRSA’s Executive Director to North Castle’s fitness and recreation investments. He currently serves on the Board of Advisors of Cybex, is an advisor to the Board of Directors of Healthtrax, and serves as a Committee Chair for Augie’s Quest to raise money through the health club community for the cure of ALS. John previously served on the Board of Directors of International Fitness, a North Castle portfolio company, and Marquette Bank Corporation. He is also a volunteer at Massachusetts General Hospital and was previously on the Board of Overseers of the Boston College Law School. John is a graduate of Notre Dame and holds an M.B.A. from Boston College. He also was drafted by the New York Knicks, played with the Harlem globetrotters, and owned and managed a tennis and fitness club.
