Dennis Madsen
Operating Advisor
Dennis Madsen, is the former President and Chief Executive Officer of Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI), a national retail cooperative of outdoor gear and clothing. Mr. Madsen spent 39 years with REI, where he began working as a stocking clerk at the Company's Seattle store, when the organization had only 33 employees. He rose through the ranks, becoming Chief Operating Officer in 1987 and Chief Executive Officer in 2000. At his retirement in 2005, REI had grown to 6,000 employees and 72 stores. A focus on core values, continuous innovation, and commitment to team members and community have placed REI on Fortune Magazine's list of "100 Best Companies to Work For" for nine consecutive years.

Mr. Madsen also serves on the Boards of Seatab Software, the Alaska Air Group (parent company of Alaska and Horizon Airlines), Western Washington University Foundation and many conservation and outdoor recreation non-profits including IslandWood, Bicycle Alliance of Washington, and the Washington Wildlife and Recreation Coalition. Mr. Madsen founded the Youth Outdoors Legacy Fund for the purpose of funding volunteers and outdoor programs whose focus is to get urban kids involved in outdoor activities and stewardship. He is also past-president of the Western Washington University Foundation Board of Directors.

Mr. Madsen currently sits on the Board of Directors for Performance Bicycle. Mr. Madsen earned his bachelor's degree from Seattle Pacific University in mechanical engineering and pursued MBA studies at Pacific Lutheran University.
