Octane Fitness |
Founded in 2001 by current CEO Dennis Lee and EVP of Product Development and Marketing Tim Porth, Octane Fitness is a leading U.S. designer and distributor of premium low-impact fitness equipment.
In 2005, Octane Fitness joined the North Castle family through a proprietary transaction sourced from North Castle's powerful and expanding network of knowledgeable executives in the Healthy Living and Aging industry. Octane Fitness joined Equinox Holdings (Equinox was subsequently sold to a strategic buyer in 2006) as the second North Castle investment in the growing fitness and recreation market.
Since 1990, the fitness equipment industry has more than doubled in size and has been the most successful category of the sporting goods industry. Interest in exercising with fitness equipment is supported by the increase in health club memberships in the U.S. which, according to the International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association, have increased 90% from 20.7 million in 1990 to 39.4 million in 2003.
Ellipticals and other low-impact cardio equipment have enjoyed steady double-digit growth since their introduction nearly 10 years ago. Low-impact exercise equipment offers a key benefit to aging customers, as well as younger active individuals, as knee, hip and back problems have become more prevalent.
Octane Fitness will leverage North Castle's expertise and resources in the fitness industry as the company accelerates its growth through the successful introduction of innovative new products, further penetration of its core specialty market and the expansion of existing dealer relationships into adjacent channels.
