gloProfessional (formerly known as Caleel + Hayden) is a leading developer, marketer and distributor of mineral-based cosmetics and high-end skincare ("cosmeceuticals") serving dermatologists, cosmetic surgeons, licensed aestheticians, spas/salons and select specialty retailers. gloProfessional brands include glominerals, mineral fusion, glotherapeutics and glospa. gloProfessional also holds exclusive distribution agreements in the United States and select international markets to sell Cellex-C and Lycon Wax.

During the early 1990's, Dr. Richard Caleel, a cosmetic surgeon, became familiar with the emerging category of skincare products known as cosmeceuticals. Dr. Caleel and Mark Hayden co-founded gloProfessional in 1997 with the objective of capitalizing on this emerging market. Accordingly, gloProfessional entered into an exclusive agreement with Cellex-C International to market the Cellex-C branded product line throughout the U.S. and in several major international markets. The agreement provided an important initial product platform for the Company and enabled it to develop an in-house sales organization dedicated to marketing cosmeceutical products to the Professional Channels.

Leveraging its strong and growing sales force, gloProfessional began to distribute additional cosmetic lines for other companies. The Company began a transformation in 2002 when management developed and launched glominerals, a proprietary line of mineral-based cosmetics. Since then, gloProfessional has transitioned from being primarily a distributor of third-party product lines to that of a Company offering multiple products with an increasing focus on higher margin proprietary brands. Following the success of glominerals, the Company expanded the glo brand with the introduction of glospa in late 2005 and glotherapeutics in April 2006. Since that time, gloProfessional has increased revenues an average of 18% per year and its proprietary brands now account for 63% of total revenues.

As the leading private equity firm focused on consumer businesses that benefit from Healthy Living and Aging trends, North Castle identified the mineral-based cosmetics category as a high-growth segment in the personal care and cosmetics industry. Mineral-based cosmetics is an emerging category that seems to be at the early stages of its growth cycle as it represents merely $400 million of the $8.1 billion US color cosmetics market. Made from finely milled minerals and inorganic pigments, mineral-based cosmetics, are generally recommended by dermatologists for sensitive skin, rosacea, post operative, laser and other procedures because of its intrinsic skin soothing and anti-inflammatory properties. Additionally, these products possess several consumer benefits over traditional cosmetics because they contain natural SPF or sunscreen and address anti-aging and other skin healing concerns including acne.
